MASTER OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

Specialising in hearing impairment

The Master of Special Education program awarded with a specialisation in Hearing Impairment is now offered in Western Australia on a part-time basis. Depending upon courses selected by candidates, this program is suitable for teachers wishing to gain qualifications to teach children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

This new approach to teacher education may include on-site lectures delivered in Perth with on-line learning and remotely delivered content. All degrees offered by the RIDBC Renwick Centre are awards of the University of Newcastle.

To enrol in this program teachers must hold a Bachelor of Education degree or a Bachelors degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (e.g. BA, DipEd) or equivalent qualification. Two years of teaching or other relevant professional experience in education is highly recommended. Teachers who do not meet the entry requirements may qualify for entry by completing a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies as preliminary studies. In order to qualify for the award, candidates must complete 80 units of course work in Special Education in the area of Hearing Impairment.

This program is made available in Western Australia through a partnership between the WA Foundation for Deaf Children (WAFDC) and the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) Renwick Centre.
